The people were Puritans. They left England to avoid persecution by the Church of England. They refused to use the King James version of the Bible partly because they felt King James who commissioned that translation wasn't a very honorable person and partly because they felt it wasn't translated properly and contained errors. They used the Geneva Bible mostly. They didn't adhere to the ceremonies and traditions of the Church of England such as having their communion table on the east wall and fenced off from the rest of the church, using only approved and written prayers and sermons (the Puritan clergy preferred to pray in their own words and preach sermons from their own study of the Bible), and refusing to wear the official robes that the Church of England demanded, among other things. Once they were established in the colonies, however, they eventually became as intolerant of other beliefs and religious practices as the Church of England was.

I recommend you do your research from a reliable encyclopedia or website rather than depend on YA for your information.

the puritains were trying to form a Utopian society through theocratic social laws and removal of decadence the Catholic church and church of England were known for. If I were writing for a newspaper in the 1600s I would interview someone like John Winthrop and have him evxplain why they moved away from England, how they were different why they felt change was needed. ect. hope this helps.

Most New england Colonies were either Puritan or some other form of Calvinism which was opposed to the Catholic oriented teaching of the Church of England at that time. Most other colonies (save Penn., New Jersey, Rhodie Island, and Maryland, I think) were Church of England.

New England colonies were fleeing because their religions were being persecuted in England. Each New England colony had its own religion, from the Quakers to the Puritans. Southern colonies were coming to America to make money, so they stayed Anglican.
